About Mrs. Bagwin Welcome to my page! I would like to tell you a little about myself. I have been teaching for 16 years. 15 of those years have been at Trailblazer Elementary in Douglas County. I have taught 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades. Most of those years have been at 3rd grade. I received my Bachelor's Degree at University of Northern Colorado in 1995. I also received my Masters Degree at University of Colorado at Denver in 2003. I believe each student is an important and contributing member of my classroom. My decisions are based on what is best for children. I will get to know your child-his/her strengths, weaknesses, learning styles- and together set goals for growth. I also believe third grade is filled with many responsibilities when it comes to school work and homework. This is a big year for independence! Communication between my students and each of you is considered essential. Feel free to email me anytime with questions or concerns. I try to instill these same communication skills within my students. It is important to treat each member of our classroom with respect and dignity, and we practice this each day. I am a native of Colorado and love the outdoors that our state has to offer! I love to hike, snowshoe, ski, camp, run, ride bikes, and participate in yoga. I completed the Chicago Marathon in 2005 and completed 10 half-marathons. My favorite is the half-marathon from Georgetown to Idaho Springs which I have run four times. I also completed the Moab half-marathon last April for the second time. It is a beautiful run as well, while taking in the red rocks of the canyon. My family and I also have a cabin in Grand Lake that we try to spend as many weekends as we can in the summertime. It is a nice and relaxing get away from the city. My husband Scotty and I have been married for 13 years. We have twin boys who are 6 1/2 years old and are in first grade. Their names are Trey and Ryder and are more fun each and every day. It is so exciting to see them grow up and learn so many new things. They love anything their dad loves such as dirtbikes, hockey, soccer, football, RC cars, and riding their bicycles. We are all Colorado fans and love watching the Denver Broncos and the Colorado Avalanche.
Each and every student has a gift to share. My goal is to help students to recognize and celebrate these special gifts. I set high expectations for all my students. Modeling, encouraging, and praising students are important components of my teaching. Communication is essential for success. I spend time one on one with my students to discuss their progress and together set goals for next steps of learning. My special gift is teaching students to be critical thinkers, problem solvers, along with the importance and relevance to transfer their skills/knowledge for the "real world."
